Communities In Schools National
Communities In Schools of Chicago is an affiliate of Communities In Schools, the nation’s largest drop-out prevention organization and the fifth largest organization serving youth. The Communities In Schools national office was established in 1977 to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. Today there are 200 Communities In Schools of affiliates in 27 states and the District of Columbia. Each affiliate functions as an independent nonprofit with a separate Board of Directors and independent funding.

Driving Change
Nationally, Communities In Schools is the leader on school-based, integrated student support services. Communities In Schools identifies existing community resources and fosters partnerships between service providers and schools that benefit students and families. Some affiliates accomplish this by case managing individual students while other affiliates, like Communities In Schools of Chicago, work with the whole school community.

Communities In Schools is driven by the philosophy that every child has the right to a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a safe place to learn and grow, a healthy start and a healthy future, a marketable skill to use upon graduation and a chance to give back to peers and community.

In recent years, the work of the Communities In Schools national office has moved increasingly into the public policy arena. Communities In Schools testifies regularly on Capitol Hill, works with government agencies, and collaborates with other national organizations.
