"There is no one better in the city than Communities In Schools of Chicago in linking
our schools with great partners in the community who can
come in and provide desperately needed services."
Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education and former CEO, Chicago Public Schools
At Communities In Schools of Chicago, our goal is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
More than 85 percent of Chicago public school students come from
low-income homes. Many students lack access to the resources and
supports that help them succeed academically. Communities In Schools of Chicago offers a solution
by connecting students and their families with free programs and
services that address students’ unmet needs. These can range from
physicals and immunizations and theater performances, to violence
prevention education and mental health care.
This school year, Communities In Schools of Chicago is
celebrating our 25th anniversary. Since our start in 1988, we have supported more than 735,000 students and connected more than 14,800 services. While those benchmarks are something to celebrate, we also know that now is a time to re-dedicate. There is a lot more work for us to do, and many more students who need help. This school year, we plan to impact more than 73,000 students through relationships with one-quarter of all Chicago public schools.
