ABOUT US
Communities In Schools of Chicago (CISC) repositions existing community
resources into schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in
school and prepare for life. We link agencies, hospitals, universities
and a wide range of health and human services to our partnering Chicago
public schools. With the cooperation of school principals, faculty members,
and local school councils, CISC makes sure that students' needs are fulfilled
through the community connections that we foster. Ultimately, by connecting
the proper resources to schools, we help students concentrate on learning
in a safe environment and allow instructors to focus on teaching.
Our dream is to help create a city where all children have the opportunity
to gain an education that will equip them to be contributing citizens
in our society.
Our goals entail the following:
- Enhance student performance and success
- Improve the climate at schools in ways that will enhance their effectiveness
in carrying out their educational missions
- Create systemic change in how schools identify and address non-educational
challenges facing their students
- Foster more efficient and effective service delivery within an environment
of constrained resources, thereby achieving improved results without
the need of additional resources
- Create effective partnerships with an increasing number of schools
to provide services that support achievement of their educational mission
- Partner with exceptional public and private agencies that provide
quality health and human services to overcome critical impediments to
children's success in school and in life
- Facilitate effective linkages between schools and agencies which provide
support services for students by addressing impediments to their success
- Link the public schools of Chicago to their communities in a sustainable
fashion that will eliminate the need for CISC involvement
- Share the lessons learned by CISC with other organizations to enhance
their effectiveness
- Achieve excellence in all that we do
